Madrid is definitively a crazy city.. Going out seems to be one of the mean occupations of the day for Madrileños. Useless to say that nightlife is deeply facilitated by an enormous variety of clubs and bars. For example Madrid has more bars than any city in the world: six for 100 inhabitants!! More than in Paris that is to say!
So telling that Madrileños like to go out is a pleonasm.
Hemingway understood it very well when writing in the thirties:
“In Madrid on cold nights you can drink sherry brandy and go to bed. To go to bed early at night in Madrid marks you as a little queer. For a long time your friends will feel a little uncomfortable about it.
Nobody goes to bed in Madrid until they have killed the night."
It remains true today.
