Currency, banks, change in Madrid

- Currency : the Euro replaced the Peseta on January 1, 2002.

- The banks are open from Monday to Friday from 8.30 to 14.00. Commissions are appreciably variable from one bank to another. It is better not to obtain change in banks located near the monuments and places of interest. In fact it is better to have the travelers checks in Euros.

- In almost all cities, one can withdraw money in the automatic cashiers with Eurocard, Mastercard or Visa. A commission is charged at the time of the transaction.
